How reliable are DAF trucks? ›

The most popular DAF truck of the 90's was the 65 and 75 and 85, all of which had a wedge-shaped cabin. These were powered 6.24-litre, 8.65-litre and 11.6-litre engines. There was also the 745, a short-lived model with an ATI driveline. In our experience, DAF trucks are extremely reliable.

DAF Trucks is a Dutch truck manufacturing company and a division of Paccar. DAF originally stood for van Doorne's Aanhangwagen Fabriek. Its headquarters and main plant are in Eindhoven. Cabs and axle assemblies are produced at its Westerlo plant in Belgium.

Using the 11-litre PACCAR MX-11 engine, the DAF XF posted a consumption of 21.26 litres per 100 kilometres – that works out to 13.29 miles per gallon (imperial) and an AdBlue consumption of only 1.32 l/100 km.

The DAF XF is powered by multi-torque PACCAR MX-11 and MX-13 engines with new power ratings, including an extra powerful 390 kW/530 hp variant. Many innovations result in even more torque at lower rpm for highest fuel efficiency.

The DAF LF is a range of light/medium duty trucks produced by the British manufacturer Leyland Trucks. It is a redevelopment from the Leyland Roadrunner of 1984. The LF45 and LF55 are powered by Cummins B Series engines.

DAF's engine factory, component plant, press shop and final assembly line for XD, XF, XG and XG⁺ models are located in Eindhoven. Axles and cabins are produced in Westerlo. Leyland Trucks (a PACCAR company) produces the company's XB series of light and medium duty trucks, as well as XD, XF, XG and XG⁺ vehicles.

DAF trucks are especially well-known for being reliable, with the CF and XF ranges offering a good balance of power and fuel economy. As standard the DAF CF is equipped with an automated TraXon gearbox (12 and 16 speed), which is specially developed for operating at low engine speeds in all gears.

The DAF CF is versatile and can handle anything from urban delivery, intrastate work or even B-double as it's rated to 70 tonne. And that's probably why this truck is proving to be the most popular of the DAF line-up, accounting for around 60 per cent of CF sales.
